Goodnight Tonight

Wings released "Goodnight Tonight" on 23 March 1979. Simply trying something completely different, Paul McCartney managed to start the entire New Romantic movement that led directly to Duran Duran and other groups. The flip side was "Daytime Nighttime Suffering."

The album from whose sessions this track was lifted, "Back to the Egg," didn't do well ("Goodnight Tonight" is not on the album). However, "Goodnight Tonight" did well on the charts, peaking at No. 5 in both the United States and the United Kingdom, which was the reverse of usual for Paul McCartney.

Anyway, the "Goodnight Tonight" video shows Paul and the band being borderline goofy in their last hit as an intact band (unless you count 1980's "Coming Up" as a Wings hit, which it kind of was in some respects but really was just Paul going solo again). In the United States, Columbia Records released "Goodnight Tonight."
