Helen Wheels

"Helen Wheels" was the first single from "Band on the Run" - though it was not included on the British version of the album for some reason.

Apparently, that was Paul McCartney's decision, and it took the efforts of an executive at Capitol records to persuade Paul to include it on the album versions outside the UK.

"Helen Wheels" - named after the McCartney's land rover - peaked at No. 10 in the United States and No. 12 in the UK.
Helen Wheels is our Land Rover. It's a name we gave to our Land Rover, which is a trusted vehicle that gets us around Scotland. It takes us up to the Shetland Islands and down to London. The song starts off in Glasgow, and it goes past Carlisle, goes to Kendal, Liverpool, Birmingham and London. It's the route coming down from our Scottish farm to London, so it's really the story of the trip down. Little images along the way. Liverpool is on the West coast of England, so that is all that means.
It is one of Paul's lesser attempts in my very humble opinion, but it is one he seemed to enjoy.
