Linda's Final Appearance
"Beautiful Night" was a minor Paul McCartney hit in the United Kingdom off of the very successful "Flaming Pie" album. McCartney's EMI/Parlophone label released "Beautiful Night" on 15 December 1997 and it peaked in the UK at No. 25 - a very respectable showing considering that the 1990s were not a very good decade for McCartney singles.
"Flaming Pie" features two appearances by Ringo Starr and orchestration by George Martin. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, it thus features some Beatles stalwarts. Julien Temple directed the accompanying video, which also features Ringo. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the video from the perspective of McCartney fans is that includes the final appearance in a music video by Linda McCartney (even though she does not perform). The band Spud also appears but doesn't contribute either.
"Beautiful Night" is an up-tempo love ballad, of the type at which Paul excels. Ringo adds some nice vocals on this. The B-side is "Same Love" on the cd and "Love Come Tumbling Down" on the 7" version.
