Paul at Bonnaroo "Helter Skelter"

Paul Wows Them in Tennessee

Paul McCartney knows how to play to a crowd better than just about anyone alive, and he proved it again on Day 2 of the Bonaroo festival in Tennessee on June 14, 2013. It wasn't just any crowd, but rather 80,000 adoring fans who appeared quite content with the show.

The amazing thing about Paul is that he still bears down and plays each show by the book, as if he were a struggling musician trying to make a good impression. No self-indulgent meanderings or diva moments, just classic sing-alongs with the crowd and the occasional sentimental comment about his former bandmates or what fans in the audience are smoking. Two and a half hours and two encores later, Paul proved once again that, yes, he still has it.

Here is a video of "Helter Skelter," the second encore. This is at the end of a long night, but Paul still does a great job. This person had a great seats, by the way.

Badfinger's Come and Get It

Come and Get It, Performed by Badfinger

This classic Badfinger song was, as all fans know, written and produced by Paul McCartney. He made sure that the singer sounded as much like him as possible. One wonders why he didn't just sing it himself - but the song wound up making Badfinger's career. Since I posted Paul's demo version, I figured I might as well post the finished Badfinger product.

Paul's slightly slower demo version is here. Note how uncanny is the resemblance between the voices of Paul and Badfinger's lead singer.

Here, There and Everywhere - Take 14

Paul Slows it Down

Here is Paul crooning his beloved "Here, There and Everywhere' from the "Revolver" recording sessions. For true fans, this is Take 14.

Some insist that this is the best version, perhaps because it is "all Paul," with the others barely noticeable. It is just Paul sitting there in his own little world, singing his own song. Personally, I prefer the album version, which is a bit faster and fuller, but to each their own. This was toward the end of The Beatles' period of harmonizing to each others' songs, and it is done subtly and elegantly here (and on the album version as well).

Lots of nice early pictures of Paul accompany the song in is video.
